Educational research

The Leaphy Foundation is a great supporter of peer2peer education. Letting students teach other students helps students in many ways. Not only are skills trained in acquiring and replicating knowledge, but planning, organizing, leadership and knowledge transfer also automatically come into play.

Peer2peer education is a relatively unknown phenomenon in current education, certainly in combination with robotics. The Leaphy Foundation has had very good experiences with this setup for years. To better understand why peer2peer education works so well together with robotics, we are conducting research into this from the foundation. This research is part of an initiative to bring more primary school students into contact with robotics, programming and technology. We make use of a unique concept in which upper secondary school students, under the supervision of a secondary education teacher, teach primary school students. This so-called nearpeer education in combination with robotics is very profitable. First of all, it is a cheap alternative to work with programming and robotics, both for primary and secondary schools. Through the lessons, pupils in primary school experience what programming is. And the students who teach these classes not only learn a lot about programming and robotics, but also about teaching, collaboration and planning.

This research is made possible by the postdoc VO grant provided by the University of Utrecht.
